The superstar By the time Pistorius met with reality TV star Reeva Steenkamp and South African model in November 2012, he was a national hero and worldwide idol. He'd just competed in the 2012 Summer Olympics, and though he didn't win a medal, he had been the first double amputee ever to compete, running on a pair of carbon fiber prosthetics.
